Samples by JD DeHart

Taking samples
roving around the room
I note one student has drawn
what appears to be our class

All the children wear helmets,
their eyes are eddies of whirling
confused water

They are seated (or chained)

I stand above them, a drill
sergeant, saying Work, and I don’t
want to be that anymore.

JD DeHart is a writer and teacher. He has recently been nominated for Best of the Net, and his chapbook, The Truth About Snails, is available on Amazon.
