Aleppo’s Coroner by David Susswein

bodies hanging from trees

bodies swimming in the riverstream

-have mercy for me, have mercy for me-

picking bones from skeletons

measuring fat from corpses decayed

-have mercy for me, have mercy for me-

closing my hands over infant’s eyes

although they are still dead and cannot see

have mercy for me, have mercy for me-

weighing weight of bones and dried excrement

writing a pledge, testament, a notebook

of names burned:  to be remembered,

only by me.

-show mercy for me, show mercy for me.-

This persons wanders in streets, wondering about all the stuff that is left as garbage. Sometimes he stares at it. He then wanders off and posts poems, that few read or listen to, some places like: Envoi, Dreamchatcher, Morphrog, ShotGlass Journal and others have listened, but that is unusual, and this strange person, bending his back at an unnatural angle, goes back to staring at garbage left in the street.
