The Perseids by Tom Montag

I stand at the edge of night
where the stars are falling all
through the darkness, more than

we can count, x to the nth,
as if the universe is
coming undone. It is

and it is not. These would be
the Perseids. The scribbles
of them are more than wind

in the darkness, more than light
marking out the end of times.
Another! This is night

sky offering its surprise.
This is the world poking us
in the eye with wonder.
