Young Fogies by Ally Malinenko

We joke about it
when we go places

like the symphony
or to a play.

We call ourselves fogies
cause we like classical music
and prefer the matinee of King Lear
to the evening performance

that way afterwards we can still get dinner and talk
late into the night about the dance scene at the end.

It’s just a joke we have
about being the youngest people in the room.
Me and You
and all the cotton heads

and now we can make it again, love
all the side looks from the old people
while you hold my folder
full of pathology reports
and my hand shakes
as I fill out the intake form

waiting to meet my oncologist.
