Unnatural Way by Gary Beck

Before the emergence of man
elemental consistency
regulated flow of life.
Eat, be eaten. Expand, contract,
with basic orderliness,
harsh, rigorous, unforgiving,
condition normal.
Then deviate man evolved
with bigger appetite
than other creatures,
began to devour
omnivorously,
stored more than he could eat,
predation on others
beyond personal need,
destroying senselessly
tribes, cities, nations,
fertilizing the earth with blood,
pouring so much concrete
constricted respiration
consigned mankind to perish
with the rest of life.
